چکیده

Abstract A method to identify the parameters of rolling resistance between particles in discrete element is proposed this paper. Experiments revealed that a free particle would swing back and forth marginally before it stops. We assume restoring force mainly resistance. An optical experimental system was designed obtain DEM model. using time history curve proposed. measured angular displacement cylindrical samples made rubber aluminum. In addition, stiffness damping coefficients were identified. The identified applied model simulate process. results show time-history obtained by good agreement with curve. This verifies swings because can be determined

Accuracy of Discrete Element Method Simulations: Rolling and Sliding Frictions Effects-Case study: Iron Ore Pellets

The discrete element method (DEM) has been used as a popular simulation method in order to verify the designs by visualizing how materials flow through complex equipment geometries.  Although DEM simulation is a powerful design tool, finding a DEM model that includes all real material properties is not computationally feasible.  In order to obtain more realistic results, particle energy loss du...

Intersecting dilated convex polyhedra method for modeling complex particles in discrete element method

This paper describes a new method for representing concave polyhedral particles in a discrete element method as unions of convex dilated polyhedra. This method offers an efficient way to simulate systems with a large number of (generally concave) polyhedral particles. The method also allows spheres, capsules, and dilated triangles to be combined with polyhedra using the same approach. The compu...

Back-calculation of mechanical parameters of shell and balls materials from discrete element method simulations

Discrete Element Method (DEM) is extensively used for mathematical modeling and simulating the behavior of discrete discs and discrete spheres in two and three dimensional space, respectively. Prediction of particles flow regime, power draw and kinetic energy for a laboratory or an industrial mill is possible by DEM simulation. In this article, a new approach was used to assess the main paramet...

Discrete Element Method Simulations of the Inter-Particle Contact Parameters for the Mono-Sized Iron Ore Particles

Aiming at predicting what happens in reality inside mills, the contact parameters of iron ore particles for discrete element method (DEM) simulations should be determined accurately. To allow the irregular shape to be accurately determined, the sphere clump method was employed in modelling the particle shape. The inter-particle contact parameters were systematically altered whilst the contact p...

Fluid Properties Effects on Sand Production using Discrete Element Method

Oil production may be accompanied by Sand Production (SP) in the weak sandstone reservoirs. Fluid flow is an important factor in transporting the separated grains and completing the SP mechanism. In this paper, the effect of fluid parameters, fluid flow, and fluid pressure on the SP is investigated by applying the Discrete Element Method (DEM). Parametric studies show that fluid velocity is red...
